The Secret
I'm late jumping on the band wagon, but I finally broke down and bought The Secret DVD. The premise of The Secret is this... What you put out into the world will come back to you. For example, if you let off positive energy, positive things will come into your life. It's basically supports the theory of "the law of attraction." I don't know that I fully get it. I probably have to watch it again to further understand how it all works. But, I do know this.... after watching the film over the weekend, I decided to become a more positive person. That lasted about a half a day! I found myself angry at the dishwasher repair man who first told us that it was going to cost $200 to fix our dishwasher, but who then said it would be more around $300! I'd like to know how to let off positive energy in situations like this :)

Diaper Crystals
I know this is a weird topic, but I'm going to write about it anyway. My son Ryan drinks so much fluids that his diaper gets full VERY fast. We'll put a new diaper on him and two hours later, it's as full as a morning diaper. I actually asked his doctor about this because I thought it was so odd. Anyway, because his diapers get so full, they often tear at the top. When the diaper tears open, it looks like little crystals that come out of the inside of the diaper. Anyone else have this experience? Or, are we the only crazy ones?
While we're on the topic of diapers, I must say that I prefer the Costco Kirkland brand of diapers over any others. Even though they are the generic brand, they seem to hold up the best. And, with going through about 70 diapers a week for my two boys, saving a little by buying generic doesn't hurt either!

Birthday Party Success!
Most of you have probably baked many cakes in your lifetime. I, too, have made my fair share of cakes. So, I was surprised when I started to make a cake for the boys' birthday party and it didn't turn out. My first round of my Elmo cake came out of the pan in pieces. I didn't follow the directions and I used a liquid oil rather than Crisco to cover the pan before I put the cake mix in. The liquid oil never seemed to be a problem, but I guess when you are using a pan with more grooves, it matters. So, I hope by reading this, you'll know that properly preparing the pan does matter! After a second attempt (and the right oil), we had a great cake for the party.
Aside from the cake fiasco, the birthday party was a success! We all had a great time. And, I was surprisingly relaxed throughout the party. I think it helped having a party away from the house... it took away some of the hostess pressures.

What ever happened to just cake and ice cream?
Ryan and Zachary are turning 2 on Monday. We're having their birthday party over the weekend. I decided to "keep it small" this year, but that still means about 15 adults and 7 kids. We are going to a nearby park where we will be able to go on a train ride and let the kids go on a pony ride. In thinking back to birthday parties I had as a kid, I don't remember things ever being so extravagant. Which brings me back to my topic, what ever happened to just cake and ice cream? If you want to share any of your birthday planning experiences, please post. We'd love to hear your stories!
